Free File Shredder 8.1.0
Windows 10 version 1809+ / Windows 11 x64. Uses the compatible .NET Framework
4.7.2 or later included with supported Windows. Start FreeFileShredder.exe.

1. Add files, or choose a specific folder. A folder adds its files recursively;
directory entries themselves are left in place. Linked paths are skipped.
2. Review the exact paths, file count and total size. Preview is read-only.
3. Choose Shred files and explicitly confirm the permanent operation. The
confirmation defaults to No. The real BleachBit engine overwrites each
accepted file before deleting it, one file at a time.
4. Review the activity log and status column for completed and skipped files.

Cancel stops future work and terminates the active engine process. Completed
actions remain, and an in-progress overwrite may leave a file partly changed.
Closing during an operation asks before cancelling and waits for the engine
to stop. Locked files and files whose size or modification time changed after
preview are skipped. Preview again before retrying them.

This is scoped file shredding. It does not wipe drives or free space, delete
entire profile roots, clean system directories, follow reparse points, process
hard links, or process network paths. File names containing % or $ are refused
because the CleanerML backend expands environment-variable syntax.
SSD remapping, flash wear levelling, filesystem snapshots, previous versions,
cloud copies and backups may retain data. There is no SSD or recovery guarantee.
Avoid concurrent renaming or replacing files while processing a preview.

Appearance: choose the sun button or Settings. Dark is the default, and the
chosen theme is remembered for your Windows account. Logs are local; engine
update checks are disabled.

Developer/review commands:
  FreeFileShredder.exe --self-test C:\Build\qa.json
  FreeFileShredder.exe --demo --theme dark --export-screenshot C:\Build\new.png
PNG export renders the actual WPF window at 2x resolution. The --demo option
shows clearly labelled example paths; no sample is processed or written.

Source, engine changes, licenses and rebuild instructions: COPYING, NOTICE.txt,

The full GPL source archive must be distributed beside the binary download.
