Supported Scope And Limits
Understand SSDs, backups and what a file overwrite can and cannot remove.
Supported Scope
Free File Shredder uses the BleachBit engine to overwrite and remove explicitly selected regular files. It does not scan for files automatically or wipe entire drives.
Important Limits
Shredding is irreversible. This app targets selected regular files, not free-space wiping, whole drives or backup copies. SSD wear levelling, copy-on-write storage, cloud versions and snapshots can retain earlier data.
Keep A Sensible Safety Copy
Only select files you own and can permanently remove. Check that they are not the only copies of important records. Keep backups elsewhere if you still need the contents; separately consider backup and cloud retention when your goal is disposal.
